Reflecting the survey effort undertaken by industry, and The Crown Estate's offshore customers, the MDE consists of a variety of data types.

Each of the surveys and research reports that are held on the MDE have been tagged against a survey theme. There are 16 types of survey themes on the MDE and some surveys have multiple themes tagged to them if the survey work collected data across more than one theme.
