Sedimentology
Survey theme: Sedimentology
The study of modern sediments and the processes that shape them
Sedimentology encompasses the study of modern sediments such as sand, silt, and clay, and the processes that result in their formation, transport, deposition and diagenesis. Sedimentologists often use modern processes to interpret geologial history. Sedimentology surveys on the MDE consist of studies focusing on sediment suspension and migration among other areas.
Offshore developers and marine aggregates collect sedimentology data to help understand aggregates resource, sediment movement and sediment suspension.
Most of the surveys on the MDE, look at sediment suspension and migration.
