sCRM Modelling (Stochastic collision risk model for seabirds in flight)

Status: Active
Start Date: June 2021
Lead Organisation: Scottish Government Marine Directorate

This project will create a tool that models the risk of random collision between birds and turbines across all UK waters and is a development of the existing Scottish Government Marine Directorate’s collision risk model (CRM).

This will lead to greater certainty in the calculations in collision prediction, reducing the accelerating the deployment of offshore wind, and avoiding projects being unnecessarily reduced in size or cancelled.

The new CRM addresses this issue, and comes in two forms: an online Shiny app that models the risk of random collision between birds and turbines across all UK waters and a downloadable Shiny app. The tool also comes with a user guide and full report detailing the scope, method, and outputs of the project.
