Project Overview

FisMaDiM: Fisheries Sensitivity Mapping and Displacement Modelling
Status: Active
Start Date: August 2022
Lead Organisation: Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), University of St Andrews, Marine Scotland Science
This project will support deeper understanding of the opportunities for coexistence of fisheries and offshore wind by mapping and modelling how fishing activity may be displaced by the construction of offshore wind farms in the UK.
The project will identify areas of high and low risk of offshore wind farm development causing negative economic impacts on fishing industry and help to reduce the likelihood of conflicts between these two economic activities. A web-based tool will be created to explain current fishing activity, as well as potential economic impacts of offshore wind sites on the fishing sector including the assessment of displacement of these fishing activities.
