As custodians of the seabed around England, Wales and Northern Ireland, The Crown Estate is uniquely placed, using a long-term view and holistic approach, to identify and address evidence gaps. An increasingly busy seabed, coupled with the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss, means it is critical that future decision-making is properly informed by high quality data. Evidence, and the associated insight, can drive positive change in the sustainable development of the seabed, bringing the nation closer to net zero, whilst creating value for nature and coastal communities. By using this new evidence, The Crown Estate can not only encourage best practices, but also support the UK in derisking an optimised, sustainable and attractive marine economy for the future.
In collaboration with stakeholders and developers, the Crown Estate proactively invests in data, research and evidence programmes. Transparency and communication are crucial in promoting sustainable data-sharing and usage, supporting cross-sectoral collaboration and ensuring outputs drive change. This page showcases the growing evidence base built on collaboration, addressing evidence gaps or data and research priorities.
